Wgt624 V 2 Wireless Bridge Wpa Extending Range Of Wireless Router

I have a Netgear WGT624 wireless router v.2 version and when I try to move from using my laptop and I have exhausted my signal can not go without the top or wireless as good as nothing. Would an adapter to extend the signal, so you can surf the Web safely, without having to be near the router? If not, what are your suggestions anyone?

Thanks
